Wrist advice

I wonder if any of you who has already broken their wrist may be able to offer some advice. My boss rang on Tuesday to ask if I could go back to work 10 days early, but I don't think I can legally as my sick note has the date marked on it. So I will have to make up from the first day back and work the first ten days non-stop. The thing is my wrist is still painful, so when the splint comes off how good will it be? Does the pain and stiffness wear off fairly quickly? When I look at the timetable they've set out for me I quail somewhat.

Having said that I wish you all a very happy and healthy new year, and look forward to seeing more of your beautiful tatting. (And thank you for all the comments and good wishes, which have been much appreciated.)

Snowy, it's been a year since I broke my wrist. I don't know how severe your break was. I had 11 breaks and underwent 3 1/2 hours of surgery. I still don't have full range of motion, and I can't lift heavy objects. Still, I've found the more I use it, the more I'm able to do. Some days are better than others. I hope yours heals quickly and that you get full use back!

Eleven breaks! That sounds really serious, I only fractured the scaphoid...still I guess the principle is the same, patience and exercise, and don't be too optimistic too soon.
Thanks Diane, and I hope you aren't suffering with the cold and damp.

hi, I'm now starting week five of having my arm in the metal frame (external fixator) and I've been told that it will be another 2 or three month before I can return to work.Patience and exercise helped heal my broken elbow a few years ago and I am hoping that they will do the same for my arm.
The lace keeps calling and its hard work with one hand and two fingers on the other but I managed half inch of bucks today!!!

further to your comment, pins are so difficult, if I get them in the right place then they are at the wrong angle :-) still. keeps me out of trouble!!

Snowy, With regard to your wrist, Take your time, Use it until your wrist gets fatigued then try to do something that does not require its use. Also Use the hot water in the bathroom to your advantage. Using Heat and cool alternating will keep the swelling down and allow for more range of motion. You may want to use an anti inflamatory such as ibuprophen/advil That should help out greatly. Oddly enough it really is not the bone that is the problem but the lack of use of the muscles that has the greatest impact. You may want to speak to a physical therapist to learn the best exercises for the wrist and the best way to return motion to the wrist as well. Also seek the advice of a competant massage therapist. They can teach you how to massage the musculature to keep you from doing more harm than good trying to just use the hand and expecting it to work right the first time.
Best wishes for you in the New year. Hope your return to work is a smooth one.
