Tatting and bobbin lace

I didn't say, but actually my wrist was fractured in the fall and I have to wear a splint thing until mid January. I have tried to tat but it's frustrating, and painful. The b2b doiley was my project in England, and I managed to make several mistakes, but am too lazy to change them.

On the other hand I have been looking at my lace books and finally I prepared a pricking and twenty (yes, twenty!) pairs of bobbins to do a piece of lace.

It's a little bit clumsy, but I have done the cloth stitch squares and a little bit of roseground. I haven't managed the the two footsides very well, but plan to sort that even yet....

I have never had this many bobbins, it's quite a jumble. I should be doing half stitch for the next section, but I am tempted to do cloth stitch, because then the bobbins stay in pairs, and I use the fact that they have matching spangles to help me.

I hope your wrist heals quickly! Good for you, trying bobbin lace. Some day I hope to be brave enough to try!

Isn't it amazing how the creative drive will push us to try something different when our chosen mode is thwarted?

I like the doily and best wishes on a speedy recovery.

The doily is very pretty and I don't see the mistakes! I've never tried bobbin lace....maybe someday.

Heal quickly!

I hope your wrist heals soon! The doily you tatted is absolutely beautiful! Twenty pairs of bobbins! I have heard my lace guild comrades exclaim delight when they read a bobbin lace pattern has "only" 50 bobbins, then they groan as they realize...OH! 50 PAIRS of bobbins, I had winding tatting shuttle bobbins (or post shuttles, for that matter) I don't know what I would do if I had to wind that many bobbins, LOL! :)

LOL! I meant to say, "I HATE winding tatting shuttle bobbins!" Not "I had winding...." Oh, well. I guess it's time for bed, LOL! :)

Snowy, you really do beautiful tatting! I love your work. I am not familiar with bobbin lace to be able to comment on your work there but its fantastic to see how it is assembled. Does it have to stay pinned like that till it is complete or can you move the needles?

Mike.

Thank you for the good wishes!
Tattingchic, I am lucky and have a bobbin winder, otherwise I don't think it would have possible with my wrist!
Mike, there are detailed instructions for moving the lace, on the pattern but I haven't managed in the past...trying to find the holes again, very difficult!

so jealous, I can move my fingers but not grasp anything! still, I look at my lace books and plan my next pieces ready for next year, hope you are out of your splint soon.
by the way, I use a block pillow if naking straight lace, makes life so much easier.

Snowy that's great if you can do some bobbin lace, the sense of achievement will be monumental.
Hope you have a really good Christmas despite your injury.

OW! Hope it was a simple fracture and heals soon; I broke my elbow, falling on the ice, several years ago. Casts are a bummer!

No tatting for you yet, I suppose, but I hope you will have a Happy New Year. Amitiés
